DJ Hell - Misch Masch
Origines : Alors que même ses fans de la première heure commençaient à se lasser de lui, le munichois DJ Hell, provocant fondateur de International Deejay Gigolo, revient sur le devant de la scène aux commandes du troisième volume de la série Misch Masch. Précédé dans cet exercice par Tiefshwarz et Freeform Five, Hell, qui cherchait tant bien que mal à se débarrasser de l'étiquette électro-clash, style dont il fut à peu près l'instigateur, semble presque y parvenir avec ce disque paru chez Four Music. Deux volumes très différents mais complémentaires, pour évoquer le style de DJ Hell.
Ingrédients : Le premier volume de ce Misch Masch est un condensé électro où la ''chair fraîche'' comme Sebastian San ou Ame côtoie sans problème la crème un peu plus old-school telle que Lil Louis ou Dave Angel. L'ambiance générale rappelle d'ailleurs ce fameux French Kiss que Lil Louis sortait en 1989, très glamour et trash entre Chicago et Detroit. Le second disque se veut un peu moins underground en alignant les remixes de Hell du Libertango de Grace Jones ou du We Are Your Friends de Justice. L'ensemble est un mix extrêmement bien construit et efficace ; DJ Hell se montre enfin sous un nouveau jour.

Nico Muhly - Speaks Volumes
Origines : Si Speaks Volumes est la première sortie du label Bedroom Communities, ce n'est pas la première œuvre de Nico Muhly. Diplômé de la fameuse Juilliard School de New York en 2004, le jeune compositeur né en 1981 a multiplié les collaborations. De Philipp Glass à Björk en passant par le non-moins charismatique Antony, ses talents et sa sensibilité sont très appréciés, de la musique contemporaine à la musique pop. Il explore maintenant un monde plus électronique avec un premier album très personnel, produit par Valgeir Sigurdsson (producteur de Björk) et enregistré entre New York et l'Islande.
Ingrédients : Pas de machines et encore moins de ''beat'' lourd mis en avant dans ce disque. Non, mais cet album n'en est pas moins électro dans sa conception rythmique. A travers sept pièces de musique de chambre très contemporaine, Nico Muhly explore avec cordes, célesta et piano les possibilités transcendantales des boucles comme Glass compose ses ritournelles obsessionnelles. Il décompose et recrée la musique électronique en la poussant dans sa première condition de musique répétitive. Le résultat, magique et harmoniquement merveilleux, marquera sûrement un changement dans le monde de l'électronica.

En ce début d'année, on nous parle d'un "nouveau" mouvement musical venu d'Angleterre appelé "new rave", dont l'album des Klaxons serait le premier avatar. En gros, un style qui mêle techno des années 90 et pop. On se permettra quand même de rappeler qu'il y a une dizaine d'années, certains comme les Lo-Fidelity Allstars s'étaient déjà attelés à opérer ce rapprochement entre les genres et qu'en 2004, de l'autre côté de l'Atlantique, les américains de !!! (Chick Chick Chick ) sur Louden Up Now, leur premier album, invoquaient groove electro et mélodies rock. On pourra toujours discuter des influences et références propres à chacun mais un groupe ne prouve sa qualité que par sa capacité à produire un contenu convaincant avant d'appartenir à telle ou telle chapelle et d'être lancé comme avant-gardiste.
Car c'est bien ce qui nous préoccupe au moment d'aborder Myth Takes. Si sur son premier album le groupe nous avait prouvé son savoir faire pour imposer un son solide, il nous avait en revanche laissés quelque peu dubitatifs quant à sa capacité à fendre l'armure et à donner une dimension charnelle à sa musique. C'est donc insidieusement que !!! installe son groove sur le morceau titre, tout en mid tempo, sur une boucle de guitare western (après tout l'album a été enregistré à Nashville), avant de nous asséner une salve meurtrière sur All My Heroes Are Weirdos où rythmes africains, riffs de guitare et chant exalté se mêlent avec bonheur. Une entrée en matière incontestablement réussie enchaînée avec deux titres plus psyché qui laissent un peu retomber le schéma brillamment mis en place. Mais cette petite baisse de régime est vite corrigée et fait de Myth Takes un album réussi qui prouve les progrès de composition du groupe et sa capacité à varier ses ambiances. Les membres de !!! avouent d'ailleurs avoir modifié leur façon de composer, se concentrant sur des plages plus courtes afin de s'astreindre à offrir une vraie densité rythmique et mélodique.
C'est fort de ces qualités que l'album peut filer vers son bouquet final, Bend Over Beethoven et Break in Case of Anything, principalement instrumentaux, planants au possible avec une ligne de cuivres bien sentie et une ambiance dub et funk, avant un atterrissage tout en douceur en toute fin de parcours. Chez !!!, le mélange electro-dance-funk et guitares pop ne constitue pas un habillage "tendance" mais devient un véritable espace de liberté et de perspectives. Un exemple à suivre.
